cake smash and first birthday photoshoots

Your baby turning one is an emotional and exciting time (I know, I have been there!) Naturally you want to be able to keep this notorious milestone locked into your photo albums to look back on and share with your friends and family. Celebrating with a cake smash session is a super-sweet (pun intended) way to capture the milestones your baby has conquered. Your baby can listen to their favourite music, whether it's from a movie or other genre whilst they dance, clap and wiggle away. I always capture plenty of moments before the cake is brought out for them to enjoy!

You won't be rushed. Your appointment can last up to a whole hour, I spend the fist 10 to 15 minutes making sure your baby is happy and comfortable with me, the surroundings and the camera, followed by a mini photo session without the cake, followed by a brief pause, then cake and photos! We finish by cleaning up where I have a sit-up style baby bath if needed, or sometimes just a wipe down will do for the babies who just enjoy a little polite nibble of their cake. Your cake will be boxed to be taken home by you afterwards.

Cake smash sessions are not traditional portraits sessions, they're designed to capture your baby showing their curiosity, messy hands, tiny nibbles, mid-splat, super proud I stood up-ness, watch me crawl backwards, watch me bottom shuffle over there, I need a cuddle face, serious concentration face, NOPE face and I just ran out of the frame face (again).

During your photoshoot I aim to deliver around 30-50 gently edited images to you in a downloadable online gallery. This number of images naturally can vary up or down from baby to baby and how they're feeling on the day. I will always try and help your baby feel safe and comfortable during their photoshoot.

FAQ's:

Can we all be in some photos? For this photoshoot type, the appointed time is for your baby only, with the exception of twins/multiples, other family members and children do not form part of the cake smash session. This is because the cake smash set is designed for a baby and I need all my time and energy devoted to them to ensure the best set of images for you and to keep consistent with my images for other clients.
How far ahead should I book? I am currently taking bookings as far ahead a year ahead for cake smash sessions. You can contact me to check availability and book now if you haven't reserved yet. I do get late availability too sometimes, so if this a last minute thing, still get in touch. Most people like to book a few months ahead, in general.
Can we do a cake smash on a weekend? Cake smash sessions are carried out on Monday to Friday
How many photos do I get? Around 30-50 digital edited images, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on your baby. There will be a mixture of photos with and without the cake.
Do I have to use a cake? No! We can do a photoshoot without the cake and use a teddy or just have fun without a cake!
Do you collect the cake for me? Yes. Everything will be ready and waiting at your session.
